Biometrics and Geolocation Legislation

Many states have considered biometric and geolocation privacy legislation now since Illinois (in 2008). The rate at which state legislators are introducing these bills has accelerated recently as the use of the technology has become more commonplace, with new bills in Arizona, Connecticut, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, and Washington. These initiatives have the potential to introduce a conflicting national patchwork of regulations that might only be resolved through comprehensive federal legislation.

The insurance industry is highly dependent on the use and analysis of data, algorithms and models. Consequently, state regulators are increasingly interested in how data is used, and are beginning to issue guidance on such use. In this session we will discuss the developing legal framework, challenges facing the industry, future trends and current best practices.

Revolutionizing the Practice of Law through Data Science

Lawyers fundamentally deal in information. It is our raw material and makes up our final product. Yet, many law departments and firms practice law the same way they did 100 years ago. Data science is fundamentally about getting insight out of data and acting on it. In this session we will discuss how modern legal departments are revolutionizing the practice of law through data science, and delivering greater efficiency, lower cost and better products to their clients.
